As part of the $40 million project to expand the Newcastle Art Gallery, ARUP has been engaged to contribute to the Gallery’s much anticipated transformation.
By doubling the size of the Gallery, the expansion will deliver state of the art facilities including a much larger space to exhibit the Gallery’s collection of 7,000 works which is valued at over $115 million. ARUP aims to use a selection of high quality lighting instruments to illuminate an evocative series of spaces for any visitor of the Gallery to experience.
Prior to the Newcastle Art Gallery’s ambitious expansion, a meagre 1% of their works could be displayed due to such tight restrictions with space. At which time, we had the opportunity to supply a large quantity of ERCO Parscan 24w wall washers and Eclipse Contour Framers in Casambi. Combined funding from the Commonwealth, local Council and a generous $10 million bequeathed by the late Valerie Ryan has now allowed for the expansion to finally take off.
Though the upgrade is still in the design phase, we’re collaborating closely with the design team as a strategic lighting plan is laid out to elevate the Gallery’s incredible collection of works.
