With the Public’s needs at the centre of the new Sydney Metro stations, a state of the art collection of modern stations with 65km of new metro rail will be unveiled by 2024. Responding to the growing demand for improved transport as the city continues to grow at a rapid pace.
The complexity of designing and executing such a grand scale project is boundless. The brief for each new station put Community at the top of the list. With functionality being non-negotiable, each Metro Station will give community members an unforgettable experience that will improve their lives, making commuting easier and more enjoyable. Each station will be part of its surrounding area, elevating its environment and not competing with it. Integrating engineering, architecture and of course, landscape.
Collaborating with a host of lighting designers to deliver a number of the Sydney Metro Stations, Jadecross has used a combination of ERCO, Coolon, Ligman & XERO to contribute to each urban setting. Barangaroo Metro Station being one of Sydney Metro’s underground stations we have worked on. Lighting designers Webb Australia are using an abundance of ERCO exterior downlights to illuminate the new station, designed by both Foster + Partners and Australian architectural firm, Architectus.
Another notable project which Jadecross has contributed to is the Pitt Street Metro Station. The underground station will become an icon of the city centre as it services a majority of commuters and customers who will use the precinct. The 250m long station will run from Park Street and Bathurst Street, connecting the two entries with a range of retail and commercial facilities. Aurecon, the lighting designers on this project, had a strict timeline they had to meet for the station’s unveiling. Approximately 700m of Coolon Max Mini in tunable white was fast tracked to satisfy and meet the needs of the client. In addition recessed IP65 Compacts by ERCO are peppered throughout the station to create maximum visual comfort for the Pitt Street commuters.
As a major drawcard for those in North Sydney, the new Victoria Cross Station will provide an enhanced transport experience as well as a new commercial and residential precinct for the public. Outdoor spaces will be infinite as the Victoria Cross precinct breathes life into the community space. Specialist lighting designers FPOV worked towards a solid lighting solution providing a selection of ERCO, Coolon, Ligman & XERO luminaires.
