Set within The Rocks, Foundation Park is a precinct where hospitality, heritage and public domain converge in close proximity. The lighting approach here centres on shaping a distinct dining and façade experience that complements the historic surrounds while establishing a strong contemporary identity. Working alongside Haron Robson, we supported the development of a scheme that emphasises surface articulation and atmospheric layering.

The lighting is centred on texture and vertical emphasis within the dining space. Coolon Ratio grazes down patterned, backlit panels, highlighting their detailing and adding depth to the wall surface. General illumination is provided by ELS Iconic Downlights, introducing a soft, even layer of light that supports the feature elements without competing for attention.

Signage is integrated into the overall lighting composition to ensure clarity and cohesion. ERCO Sites fittings are positioned at ground level to graze upward across the signage, delivering precise, uniform illumination that enhances visibility while maintaining a restrained visual presence against the façade.

Material expression is further explored through the illumination of stone walls. ERCO Tesis inground luminaires articulate the texture of the stone from below, allowing shadow and highlight to define the irregular surface and reinforce its depth.

Elsewhere, Ligman Odessa grazes sandstone walls, drawing out tonal variation and vertical form. Directional ERCO Tesis fittings add focused up light to adjacent surfaces, introducing depth and contrast.

The result is a lighting scheme defined by precision and nuance, where carefully specified luminaires heighten texture, clarify identity and enhance the evening experience while remaining respectful of the site’s architectural character.
