Jadecross was proud to collaborate with Compass Intelle Engineering Group on the upgrade of Sydney’s Transport Management Centre, supplying a carefully considered lighting solution for one of the city’s most critical operational environments.

Delivered for Transport for NSW, the project involved the refurbishment of the TMC control room, designed by Davenport Campbell, a space responsible for monitoring and managing Sydney’s transport network around the clock. With no access to natural daylight and continuous occupation, lighting played a vital role in supporting both user wellbeing and operational performance.

A key design challenge was the absence of daylight within the space. To address this, the lighting design introduced tunable white technology to help support the circadian rhythm of operators working across extended shifts. Tunable white ceiling and wall washing luminaires were used to create an artificial daylight effect, allowing the space to subtly shift in tone throughout the day and night. This approach helps maintain alertness and comfort while providing consistent visual conditions in a demanding control room environment.

Above the workstations, luminaires with excellent glare control were essential due to the prolonged use of screens. Erco Jilly and Erco Invia were selected for their precise optical performance, delivering focused task lighting while minimising visual discomfort. Careful attention was also given to the placement and control of light to ensure the large video screen walls were not illuminated, as reflected light could interfere with visibility and operations. This was achieved through Erco’s precise optic control, directing light only where it was required.

Jadecross supplied a comprehensive range of architectural and technical luminaires for the project, including Erco Jilly, Parscan Tunable White, Invia, Eclipse and Skim, along with Xero Lighting XTA and 3.0 recessed luminaires and ELS Versaline 27 Dual Optic and Eclipse 200 Round fittings.

The result is a highly controlled lighting solution that supports performance and visual comfort in a space that operates continuously. Jadecross was pleased to support Compass Intelle Engineering Group in delivering a refined and responsive lighting outcome for this essential facility.
