At 1 Kent Street, the lighting design by Arup plays a quiet but essential role in shaping how the building is experienced. We supported their vision by supplying the lighting solutions used throughout the project, contributing to a scheme that balances heritage character with a refined, contemporary edge.
The building brings together historic fabric and modern intervention, and the lighting responds carefully to both. In the lobby, Ligman Tango wall lights introduce a soft, considered layer of illumination that draws out the texture and warmth of the existing brickwork, allowing the heritage elements to remain a focal point.
Across the project, precision and visual comfort were key considerations within Arup’s design. The XERO XTS3.0 Square DI fittings with low glare UGR diffusers were selected to deliver clean, controlled light while maintaining a calm visual environment, supporting the architecture without becoming intrusive.
On the upper level, the pitched ceiling becomes a defining feature. ERCO track with Jilly fittings provides a focused and flexible lighting layer that responds to the architecture with clarity and control.
Complementing this, the XERO XTA2.0 system fitted with asymmetric linear lenses is used to uplight the pitched ceiling. This introduces a soft wash of light that accentuates the geometry of the space, adding depth and a sense of volume while reinforcing the architectural form.
The combination of these carefully selected fittings brings out the building’s character and creates a lighting scheme that feels considered, elegant, and timeless.
