A whopping 31 metres below ground level lies the new addition of a metro station at Victoria Cross, serving a very real need to service Sydney’s growing population requirements.

Including a station concourse and platforms beneath North Sydney’s hustling Miller Street, the Victoria Cross Metro Station precinct enjoys a premium commercial and retail hub nestled in the centre of North Sydney.

As pioneers in this space, COX were commissioned by Lendlease to complete the architecture, interiors and graphic design for the project. Taking on the epic task, COX have transformed what might be considered quite a utilitarian project, into an engaging architectural jewel, hidden beneath Sydney’s North.

Experts in their field, FPOV provided an innovative lighting solution for the new Metro Station combining ERCO, XERO and Coolon. XTA2.0 by XERO illuminates various adits, signalling commuters towards what is the ultimately the nucleus of the Victoria Cross Metro Station – an impressive linear platform submerged beneath Miller Street. Curvilinear in form, the platform stretches across a modern layout which boasts clean architecture and a striking curved ceiling.

Bold bronze panels frame and form a connection point to the glass doors that open and close for commuters, while FPOV used a customised version of XERO’s XTI 3.0 to single-handedly illuminate the entire ceiling space above them. Specifically developed with project specific optics, a single strip of light on either side of the platform optimises a seamless source of light to up-light the curvature of the wall and ceiling.  XTA 2.0 Slot sits neatly into the bulkhead above the glass doors providing functional support while lighting the entrance to the train.

ERCO’s Lightscan Ceiling Washlights are strategically positioned at several entry points to the platform, tucked above modern black signage while up-lighting escalator entry points.
