As Australia’s oldest Anglican parish, St. Philips Anglican Church stands as a beacon of timeless architectural beauty. Originally constructed in 1793, the church embodies a deep sense of reverence and historical significance. With its intricate stonework, graceful arches, and soaring exposed ceilings, the interior is meticulously designed to enhance acoustics and foster a serene atmosphere for contemplation. Heritage Architects Jean Wahl and Paul Davies brought their specialised expertise to the restoration of this national architectural treasure. Frederika Perey of Illuminated Designs was tasked with revitalising the church, employing an extensive array of ERCO lighting solutions to honour its interiors and heritage.

Discreet in form, ERCO’s Parscan 24W luminaires with cross baffle accessories offer precise and flexible illumination for the handcrafted timber pews. Complementing these, 12W Parscans with cross baffles illuminate the outer pews, achieving a harmonious balance. Narrow spot Parscans, chosen for their exceptional glare control and performance, cast a warm and inviting accent over the chancel, drawing the congregation towards the front for worship and reflection. Perey strategically employs various lens accessories in the Parscans to enhance the lighting of the stained glass windows, pews, and signage.

ERCO’s Pantrac wall-mounted luminaires further accentuate the architectural features, effortlessly uplighting the stunning ceilings while seamlessly integrating into the church’s historic fabric. Working in tandem, ERCO wall-mounted Trions illuminate the lower sections of the ceilings, ensuring every aspect of St. Philips Anglican Church is honoured.
