The Sydenham Station upgrade is a major milestone in the Sydney Metro project, seamlessly connecting metro and train services. This $301 million transformation delivers a new concourse, accessibility upgrades, modernised platforms, and enhanced facilities to support high-frequency operations.
The revitalised station reflects a forward-thinking approach to public transport, designed to meet Sydney’s growing needs. Aurecon and GHD led the design and engineering efforts, ensuring the station’s modernisation aligned with Sydney Metro’s vision.
We supported Aurecon by delivering a bespoke lighting design that addressed the station’s unique operational and aesthetic requirements. The project required customisation of the Ligman Tango 37 wall luminaire to create tailored solutions for wall-mounted and post-top applications. The final design incorporated 400mm extended body lengths to ensure optimal light distribution while accommodating integral emergency gear. In addition, the wall-mounted luminaires featured specialised variations in mounting brackets, ensuring seamless integration with the station’s architecture.
This collaborative effort prioritised both practicality and design excellence, resulting in lighting that enhances visibility and safety while complementing the station’s contemporary aesthetic. The custom solutions exemplify how thoughtful design can elevate public infrastructure, contributing to an improved passenger experience and setting a new benchmark for urban transit environments.
